Global Policy Insights on October 17th held a Panel Discussion on the recently launched book "Railway Transportation in South Asia: Infrastructure, Planning, Regional Development and Economic Impact" the discussion was graced by the editors, Dr Tomas Dentinho, Dr Sumana Bandopadhyay, Dr Saptarshi Mitra and Stabak Roy and contributing authors Chitresh Shrivastva, Non-Resident Fellow, Expert-Railways and Critical Transport Infrastructure and Pereira Hugo Silveira
About the Speakers,
Tomaz P. Dentinho is Professor of Regional, Environmental and Agriculture Economics at the University of Azores, Portugal, and is Director of the Regional Cooperation Research Programme at the South Asia Democratic Forum (SADF), a Brussels based think tank. Dr. Dentinho is also Editor-in-Chief of the Journal Regional Science Policy and Practice.
Sumana Bandyopadhyay is Professor at the Department of Geography of University of Calcutta in India, specialized in Urban Geography, Regional and Environmental Planning. She is presently the President of the Indian Regional Science Association. Her present research areas are urban public space, neoliberal urban transformations, ecological resilience and urban heritage. Her publications are largely in the field of urban studies.
Saptarshi Mitra is Assistant Professor at the Department of Geography and Disaster Management of the University of Tripura in Agartala, India, Coordinator of the Regional Planning and Urban & Rural Development Laboratory, and Researcher on projects in the field of planning and development.
Stabak Roy works as Doctoral Researcher at the Regional Planning and Urban & Rural Development Laboratory, Department of Geography and Disaster Management, Tripura University, India. Mr. Roy conducts research on Railway Geography, Railway Infrastructure Planning and Management, and Transport Planning and Tourism.

Arpit Chaturvedi
Arpit Chaturvedi is the Co-Founder and CEO of Global Policy Insights. He is also a Lecturer at the San Francisco State University where he teaches Comparative Perspectives in Public Service to graduate students.
A graduate of the Cornell Institute for Public Affairs, Arpit holds an MPA degree (phi alpha alpha) with a focus on Governance, Politics, and Policy Studies. He was also the first non-US citizen to hold the position of the Editor-in-Chief of the Cornell Policy Review. He is the author of the book “Our Egalitarian Universe?” and has been the editor of “Not Without her: Communal Harmony” – a monograph printed by the National Foundation for Communal Harmony, Government of India, with essays from the top civil servants of the country. He has published articles in various prestigious journals on the themes of democracy, governance, systems thinking, game theory, history and politics.
