At Global Policy Insights, ‘The Commonwealth Project’ was founded in 2018 to establish a formal dialogue on the role of the modern commonwealth in the 21st century, deliberate upon its past linkages and assess a roadmap for its future. The project was established under the leadership of Neha Dewan (Project Director) and Uday Nagaraju (Project Chair) in 2018.

Since its inception, the project has achieved several milestones and continues to develop partners for a better future of the Commonwealth. The project follows a multilayer approach to examine specialised areas from trade and economic calculations, geographical proximities, and democratic politics to strategic priorities, across the Commonwealth and beyond. In supporting parliamentary democracies, effective decision-making and good governance practices, the Commonwealth as a synthesis of diverse states and unique systems, local expertise and national dialogues has played a pivotal role in maintaining international peace and order. This intimate relationship between the internal and the international, the domestic and the global has been built through ‘networks of the Commonwealth,’ and this project also aims to further unfold these to deepen our understanding of this crucial system.
