Rahul Shrivastava is the Ambassador of India to Romania, Albania and Moldova. He has been in this post since July 2020. This is his second assignment as Ambassador. He was earlier Ambassador of India to Venezuela from 2015 to 2018.
Rahul was born in Chhattisgarh in Central India. He spent his younger years growing up in Odisha.
He joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1999.
September 1999-August 2001 – Underwent training in India.
August 2001-July 2004 – Third Secretary/ Second Secretary, Embassy of India, Moscow.
July 2004-August 2006 – Second Secretary and Representative of India, Astana, Kazakhstan.
August 2006-July 2007 – Second Secretary/First Secretary/Charge d’Affaires, Embassy of India, Almaty, Kazakhstan.
July 2007- July 2009 – Under Secretary (Russia)/Deputy Secretary (Russia), Eurasia Division, Ministry of External Affairs.
August 2009-April 2013 – First Secretary/Counsellor/ Charge d’Affaires, High Commission of India, London, UK.
May 2013-July 2015 – Counsellor, Embassy of India, Moscow, Russia.
July 2015-March 2018 – Ambassador of India to Venezuela.
April 2018-July 2020 – Joint Secretary, SSIFS, Ministry of External Affairs.
July 2020-Till Date – Ambassador of India to Romania with concurrent accreditation to Albania and Moldova.
Rahul holds a BSc degree in Chemistry, a Master’s Degree in Computer Applications (MCA) and another Master’s Degree in International Relations.
He is fluent in Hindi, English and Russian. Has professional working proficiency in Spanish.
Rahul is the most followed diplomat on Quora. He has been interested in writing since a young age, when along with his friends, he published a magazine at 12 years of age. He has penned eight books which include family saga, self-help fable, young adult, coming-of-age fiction, sci-fi and romantic fiction.
In his spare time Rahul loves cooking and Indian food is his favorite. He also likes to relax by painting with his favored style being landscapes using oil on canvas.
